The city is located on the Bosphorus Strait and encompasses the natural harbor known as the Golden Horn.
During its long history, Istanbul served as capital of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. As the modern day commercial and economical capital of Turkey, Istanbul bustles with vibrant energy from early in the morning until deep into the night.
